Our dog Oliver was the original Travel Hound. At 15 years of age, he was a senior with special needs, so we took him everywhere . He came on all vacations. We took him biking, to the beach, on boats, and to Ranches with us. He loved to site see in his stroller, and he traveled with portable crates, travel bowls, fluffy beds, and his own pet hammock and wheel chair. He went to restaurants and hotels regularly.

We thought there might be others like us that were looking for travel gear and sports items for their dog, and from that need Travel Hounds was born!

We found that many of our customers were involved in dog events like agility, fly ball, AKC conformation shows, disc dogs, and rally or obedience events.

We then expanded our business to cater to people and pets involved in dog sporting events and activities. They need lots of gear for themselves and their multiple dogs! Crates, buckets, toys, cargo mats, pet carriers to transport dogs and much much more.

Travel Hounds supports rescue and adoption, and that is a third customer base for us. We try to stock training info, gear, and referrals for those who have recently adopted a new dog. We are always happy to help you locate a certified trainer in the sport of your choosing.

Why You Need Travel Hounds

I have been traveling with one or more dogs for over fifteen years. While it was always fun, it could often be challenging in the not too distant past. Much has changed in the last few years!

While it was once considered extreme or eccentric to travel with an animal companion, it is now quite common. Many hotels and guest houses that would have never allowed pets, even five years ago, now welcome pets and their humans.

Why? Our priorities have changed as a society. Many people regret not having more time to spend with their pets. They are considered an integral part of the family. Travelers don’t always feel relaxed on a trip knowing that their canine pal is home alone or staying at a kennel. Boarding can also be very expensive, depending on the length of the trip. It is not an option for all dogs.

Consumer demand and increased competition for hotel and condo customers has driven the market to accept pets in ever greater numbers. There are more pet friendly options then ever.

We are here to help you have the best time ever on the road with your pet.
